The Conference of Major Superiors of Nigeria (MEN) was formed in 1970, at Ibadan. The newly established Conference was made up of the leaders of Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life. It was organized in response to the request of Pope Pius XII who, in l950, urged Religious around the world to come together in national associations. The aims and objectives of the Conference include:

The Conference of Major Superiors of Nigeria (MEN) was formed in 1970, at Ibadan. The newly established Conference was made up of the leaders of Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life. It was organized in response to the request of Pope Pius XII who, in l950, urged Religious around the world to come together in national associations. The aims and objectives of the Conference include: 1. To nourish in Nigeria the various types of the Consecrated Life both active and contemplative, so that they may show the different aspects of Christ s mission and the life of the Church. 2. To promote cooperation among the Institutes, and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on matters of common interest, respecting the autonomy of the individual institutes (can. 708). 3. To promote cooperation among the institutes with the Bishops and the diocesan clergy, especially in apostolic endeavours.

4. To foster religious vocations so that the faithful may choose freely their way of life in accordance with the inspiration received from the Lord. 5. To provide appropriate official representation with ecclesiastical and civil authorities. 6. To acquire and own land or other real property for the purpose of the Conference. 7. To do and to perform such other things as are incidental to, necessary, or helpful in the prosecution of its purpose as above specified, and to provide suitable place or places for the carrying on and furtherance of such aims and objectives
